Please tell me you guys weren't fooled by Mrs. Figg's story!!! I really doubt that she could see those dementors in book 5. I don't think she saw them because
a)squibs can't see dementors
b)she arrived late.
or both. I mean, it said in the letter that Harry performed the charm at 9:23, and Mrs. Figg said she left at 9 o'clock to get cat food. Because of the clanking of her bag, we know she had cat food in it. is it really possible that she could go to the store, buy cat food, and get back in 23 minutes, especially since she's a slow old lady?
So, I think someone told her about the dementors and what to say. I mean, after all, it said somewhere, I'm pretty sure, that her words sounded like they were learned by hear or something, and then she stumbled and said a few words wrong, as if it was a speech she memorized and messed up on. I, for one, believe someone told her what to do and say, because they saw the dementors. but who?
and and also, during the hearing, fudge said:
"that's what you saw, isn't it?"
and she replied that was what happened."
meaning, she DIDN"T see the dementors, she just knew what happened and she told fudge. meaning that someone must have told her.
Edit: jkr mentioned on her site that Mrs. Figg couldn't see the dementors. So now, the only question that remains is who saw them, and who told Mrs. Figg what to say? Perhaps she felt them and saw Harry's patronus? Are squibs able to see magic like a patronus? What DO squibs see/feel when they get near dementors. I'd also like to point out that Dudley didn't see them either, but he had to see something, because in an interview/chat when someone asked J.K.Rowling what Dudley saw when he faced the dementors she answered "good question! you'll find out". So....
