is it cruel and unusual punishment, or perfectly justified?

I am for the death penalty. It serves the person right for what they did. Just like the old saying Eye for an Eye. They kill someone why not get killed themselve.

Well, personally I am not for this. You're going to kill someone for killing someone? Lock 'em up for life. I think you're just as bad if you give someone the death penalty for killing someone. "You killed someone, so you have to get the death penalty. I get to kill you, but I don't get in trouble because it's part of my job, and it's definatly ok for me to do this because what I am doing is not against the law." Whatever. You're still killing someone, and it is still wrong.

I agree with aquasplash completly. It's not ok to kill anyone. I believe that even if someone killed thousands of people, they themself are still a person, and deserve to be treated with respect and human dignity. Does this mean you should let them wander in the streets? No way! Like aquasplash said, you can put them in prison for life. What's wrong with that? Why do we have to kill people just because they killed people. Two wrongs don't make a right.

ok maybe if they kill one or two people they should be sent to jail. But if this person kills lets say 10 or over yes they should get the death penalty. And why should be treated with respect and human dignity. They killed people! So are you saying that you would respect someone thats killed people by sending them to jail. Thats like saying you would respect Hitler by sending him to jail for life. No he killed tons he would of died and today if someone kills tons they should get the death penality.

Why should someone be treated with human dignity if they kill ten people? Because they are human, and it's the right thing to do. And yes, Hitler was evil, but he was a humnan too. I may not believe in anything that he stands for, but a person is a person. And I firmly believe that every person deserves respect.

well, can i add another point? in some cases, you may have killed the innocent person. say, you accused someone of murder and killed them, and after a month you found out they didn't do it?

Then that would be the judge or whoever sent him/her to get killed. If evidence pointed to the person then it did.

I still don't think it's right. As for the "eye for an eye" thing posted waaaaaaaay above, I was watching a movie about Gandhi in S.S/Histroy and the Gandhi guy said "And eye for an eye makes the world blind." And Ana, I'm not sure I fully understood that, so if what I'm about to say is what you said sorry! But, let's say someone was accussed of killing someone, and they were sentenced to death. But later evidence proved that the person was really innocent? You would have given the death penalty to someone innocent. Which is unlikley, and that's what murder's do, but whatever. I mean, you can't just kill someone because they killed someone! Like ldragontongue said, they should be treated with respect or whatever. You don't have to like them, but don't kill them!

I agree. There is the possiblity that you could kill someone innocent. But, I think the major problem with the death penalty is less about that, and more about the fact that it's wrong to kill someone.

Yes, exactly! I mean, it's also like that saying "Two wrongs don't make a right."

OK ya i know ghandi said that. Which i disagreed with. It is unlikely that someone will get killed who was inicent the evidence has to be very accurate. If u killed an inicent person then u need tog o through the evidence again and find the right person. eye for an eye is a little bit well i shouldnt have said that it should be more of an eye for eyes as in u had to kill more than 2 or 3 people. Take Sadam he would be the one to get the death penelty. Does noone agree with me.

Do we agree with you on what? Sorry, that was a little unclear. Will Saddam get the death penalty, probably. But do I agree with that, no! Not because I like Saddam, NO WAY!!!! But I don't approve of killing people just because they killed people. I just see it as wrong. Put him in prison for life, what's wrong with that?
