Arianhrod had this up on the policy debate, but I thought it might be better served as its own topic. (Since people really don't check the policy debate anymore.)
An issue has just became apparent.
This issue is: what can guests to HWH do on the forums? What rights should belong to everyone and what should be members-only?
Any thoughts?
I personally believe that advertising is a member-only privilege. We can't let people come to our site just to advertise. So, I think we could even extend this rule to say that you must have a certain number of posts before you can advertise. We want people to come to these forums to chat and enjoy. Not to get free advertisement. Advertising is a privildge extended to members.

I agree that advertising should be a members-only privilege, but I think that requiring people to have a certain number of posts before advertising is going a little too far. I think that would just discourage people from becoming members. Hopefully, if they are required to become members before advertising, that will encourage them to check out HWH and participate.
One of our goals right now is to get the post count up, and I think that gaining new members who want to advertise will probably be more beneficial than just allowing everyone to advertise.

One of our goals right now is to get the post count up, and I think that gaining new members who want to advertise will probably be more beneficial than just allowing everyone to advertise. If we make the post count requirment a reasonable size (like 5-10 posts) people who are joining because they want to advertise will have no problem filling up the requirement and then going and posting there ad. This will make the post count go up. If the person can't bother to post that few times before advertising, they aren't going to be an active member, and they won't make the post count go up. They are just going on the site to advertise. We don't want members like that. Now, maybe if we place a post count, then we will have a few members who just want to advertise realize that they like the boards, after posting in other places. That would make our post count go up.

advertising was never allowed to guests or members with less than 15 posts. so I really don't think this is an issue. guests can chat on privet dr and wherever and post on wisteria walk if they have questions, but that's it.
p.s. nice siggy! you have to post so that i can rate it!!

Oopsie...with all the policy stuff, the rules got a lot more complex and harder to keep straight then they should have been @_@. Thanks for reminding me of that! Sounds like a fine policy to me.
