Ok, well, seeing as ldragontongue hasn't started this debate i did it for her. ok, so basically the problem is inactive members. membmers have been joining but being inactive. since homework is optional making them jion a class is useless except it gives them an extra 5 points. when members are inactive for a while i sometimes delte them. some people think this penalty is too great. ok, so basically this debate is: should there be penalties for being inactive? what should they be, how harsh can they be, and where do we draw the line between active and inactive?

you should dedut points from the members houses. actually, that doesnt seem fair to the ppl earning points and being active. what you should do is take away some of their money. maybe like 20 galleons after you've already emailed them and they havent replied back and stuff. 20 should be for warning, 50 for the second time, 100 galleons for the 3rd time. then after that, you should just delete them. we have like 75 members but half of them dont do anything. i mean, they might as well forget they are a member of hwh. active ppl do their hw if they are in classes and do their jobs in the ministry. the most important is i think being active on the forums. here is where we discuss everything so forum use is pretty important. inactive members are defined by, not getting emails from them asking something, turning things in, etc. you can always tell the active members because they have the most things in their dormitories.

oh, trust me, that wasn't long, not compared to what ldragontongue posts sometimes!! anyway, i think you have a good point about deducting money and not ponts. however, i think it's a little too many galleons. i'd do 10, then 25, then 45 galleons. how do we know someone is inactive though? how do we decide?
p.s. very good debating! an example of a wonderful debate post!!

if you keep your emails, check and see when was the last time they emailed you. some of them probably emailed you in the very beginning and saying i want to join and they joined, then you never heard from them again. you might be surprised, some of them are probably still members.

on people's profiles on HWH, i put when they joined. i dunno why, but i do. but i get a lot of emails so finding when they last meailed me(not to join but to do something on HWH)would be hard.

maybe then just see the date they joined and if you remember them doing something like on the forums or on the contest you have on the site in the last month or so.

we're not just talking about the forum,we're talking about HWH and its actual members who don't do anything.

We need to take everything into consideration here. We need to be as accurate at finding inactive members as possible. Maybe we should have a record system. Ana and I could come up with criteria: eg. post on the forums, enter the caption contest, send Ana #___ emails commenting on her site, be an active staff member. If someone falis to meet the criteria for that month, Ana will send them an email and/or PM. If they do not become active or send a reply excusing them from the site (e.g. 1st I went on spring break, then my grandfather died) in _______ days/weeks Ana will "put them on probation" by sending them another email. ________ days/weeks after being on probation, the member will be deleted if they do not become active. I think this is a way to ensure that members do at least a certain ammount of work each month, which will tell us that they are active. We then have a period of warning and probation if they have not met their criteria after that they are gonners. If this passes, I will put this in the hwh policy that I am currently writing. The HWH policy MUST be accepted by someone before they can become a member, so they will be warned before they decided to be inactive!

that's a really good idea. however i wil need some help setting up the criteria, and teachers will need to be notified of this so they can tell me who did how much homework, or who bought which items, etc...

when teachers send you an email about someone turning in their hw, do you know the students user name? then you can see which students are doing hw.

I agree with ldragontongue. I don't think that inactive members would really care if you deduct money. This way, they have a fair warning. Teachers should tell Ana when a student does homework, joins the class, etc. This way, Ana can tell when they are active. Also, Ana, keep track on who's participating on the board. That is another way to keep track of inactive members.
